Day 2 – Moustiers St. Marie

Day 2 – Moustiers St. Marie

17/08/09

Today we have explored the area of Moustiers. Again it is very hot and we started the day a bit late, around 11 am. After having a very nice breakfast in the garden, we grabbed a touristic brochure from the hotel to discover the activities around the area were parapenting, kayaking, mountain climbing, canoing, horse back riding..well, a bit too much for us, being our first day of holidays. The sun was really hot so we decided to go to a lake that in the map sounded really promising…Lac Du St Croix.

The pictures were breathtaking …but, when we got to the lake, we discovered there were hundreds…maybe thousands of people swimming, canoing, pedaling, there were people everywhere!!!! But…we found a spot under a tree and we took a couple of swims in the lake. Around 3 pm we had enough and we decided to look for a town with a restaurant to eat, forgetting we were in France!!. So in the search of the restaurant we drove for 10km around the Gorges du Verdon, with lots of traffic, and then decided to go back to Moustiers. After discovering that at 4 pm it was impossible to find a bar or restaurant that could sell us a simple sandwich, we bought some bread, cheese and ham and ate in a bench. We also walked around the town which is beautiful. The most characteristic trend is that the town is surrounded by two cliffs with a 225 meter chain between them and a golden star hanging in the middle. It is believed that the star has been there since 5 centuries ago and it was an unknown knight that promised to hang it if he returned alive from the crusades. The star has been replaced several times, but there it is!

We went back to the hotel, took a looong nap outside, showered and at nine we went for dinner.

We don’t know if it was because of all the sun of the day but our multiple personalities start showing up! Suddenly we made up a story that took us all night and we laughed very much. No, I did not impersonate Cindy, this time it was Greta from Germany, travelling around the world looking for a meaning of life. Greta had met Carla, who had a naturist hotel in Montseny, Catalunya and was visiting Moustiers to meet Paula, who was from Morocco and has escaped from her husband to meet Al-iris, her lover who was an artist. Trick came along, she was from Switzerland and was in Moustiers to buy French wine.  We laughed and laughed, with several laughter attacks, and came back to the hotel around midnight.

Dia 2 – Moustiers
